Microphones Across the Table

Microphones Across the Table

Microphones across the table.

Cords everywhere.

Testing, testing… 1-2-3.

Things I remind myself as I unpack my new “business equipment” (currently stored in a repurposed Amazon box) every day:

Remember to wipe the crumbs off the dining room table before setting down the audio gear.

Don’t forget to clean the fingerprint smudges off my laptop screen from last night’s homework.

Working on a dream project is an incredible feeling.

It’s also incredibly messy and imperfectly perfect.

The reality is, I have a small house, a 14-year-old and an 11-year-old who are about to be home for summer (with zero plans scheduled… ahhh), a new puppy who demands approximately 110% of my attention, and a husband who works from home — speakerphone is his favorite!

Dining room table by day.
Podcast studio by… whenever the house is quiet enough.

What a strange feeling it is to build something new in the middle of ordinary life.

And what an exhilarating feeling to finally give myself permission to do it anyway.

Motherhood already comes with an all-encompassing mental and physical load. Then suddenly, layered on top of all of that: microphones, editing software, audio interfaces, recording tests, building a website, YouTube tutorials, and learning entirely new programs from scratch.

One day at a time.
One program at a time.
One guest at a time.

But for now, behold the dining room table –er podcast studio-  in all her glory.

She may not look glamorous, but she’s what my dreams are made of. And maybe, for the first time, I’m realizing that my dreams are worth making space for too.
